Konstantin I.Kosachev

Chairman of the Federation Council Foreign Affairs Committee

K.Kosachev was born in 1962. He is Russian.

K.Kosachev graduated cum laude from the International Relations School (MGIMO) in 1984.

In 1991, K.Kosachev graduated from the Department of Advanced Training in the Diplomatic Academy MFA of the USSR.

He worked at the MFA of the USSR, then Russia from 1984 till 1998. He began his career as an administrative assistant on duty and rose to Deputy Director of the Department.

From 1998 until 1999, he worked as an assistant, then Deputy Head of the Secretariat of Russia’s Prime Minister and was in charge of foreign issues.

From 1999 until 2003, K.Kosachev held different posts: a State Duma deputy of the third convocation, First Deputy Head of the “Fatherland – United Russia” political faction, Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, a member of the Standing Commission of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS member-states on foreign policy issues, a member of the Interparliamentary Group Board of the Russian Federation and the State Duma Council on Compatriots, a State Duma member of the Federation Council permanent delegation in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

He coordinated a Deputy group for relations with the Swedish Parliament.

In December 2003 he was elected 4th State Duma deputy. He presided over the Foreign Affairs Committee.

On 5 March 2012 K.Kosachev was appointed Head of the Federal Agency on CIS Affairs, Compatriots residing abroad, and on International Humanitarian Cooperation, Special Presidential Representative on CIS member-states.  

Since 22 December 2014 he has been Chairman of the Federation Council International Affairs Committee.

K.Kosachev is Councillor of State of the Russian Federation, Second Class

K.Kosachev is Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Second Class.

K.Kosachev is married and has three children.

Hobbies: horse riding, diving.
