Category: Endowment Stories MGIMO Holds Final of French Oratorical Contest 12 March 2019 March 12th, just before the International Francophonie Day, MGIMO held the final tour of its second oratorical contest in French, named after Vasily Trediakovsky. The first prize was awarded to second year student, Igor Chervinsky. MGIMO Rector, Anatoly Torkunov, also co-chairman of the «Trianon Dialogue» Russian-French forum of civil societies, kicked off the event and welcomed the participants, guests and jury members. He also congratulated MGIMO’s French Club on organizing this event, which enables students to improve their public speaking skills and to better understand other cultures through the art of debate. The contestants were prepared for the final stage of the contest by students from Sciences Po Paris and Strasbourg. The jury of the competition in 2019 comprised the Gabonese Ambassador to Russia, Johanna Rose Mamiaka, the Charge d’Affaires of Canada to Russia, Stephane Jobin, the First Secretary of the French Embassy in Russia, Nicolas Broutin, the President of the Franco-Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Emmanuel Quidet, the General Representative of ENGIE in Russia and Ukraine Albert Grigoryan and the Head of the French Language Department at MGIMO, Mikhail Ogorodov. Eight students participated in the final round and four of them were awarded prizes. The winners will go on a week-long trip to France, sponsored by the «Trianon Dialogue» Forum. The oratorical competition is jointly organized by MGIMO’s French Club, the French Embassy and the French Institute in Russia. Vk
