MGIMO Hosts First International Russia-China Youth Forum

17 November 2017

November 16th, the First International Youth Forum «Russia and China: A Look into the Future» unfolded at the University. The event was organized by the Center for Chinese Studies at MGIMO’s Economic Club «Oeconomicus» and designed as a platform for students and young professionals from Russia and China to voice their ideas and exchange opinions about how to expand bilateral cooperation.

The forum gathered around 300 students from universities in Russia and China, and counted amongst its speakers prominent politicians, diplomats and businessmen including: MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Human Resources Vladimir Morozov, the Russian Deputy-Minister for Transport Nikolai Asaul, the Chinese diplomat Fan Xianrong, the Sinologist and Dean of MGIMO’s School of Political Sciences, Alexey Voskresensky.

Vladimir Morozov noted the important contribution of young specialists in developing fruitful relations between Russia and China, all the while encouraging meeting participants to come up with new ideas and proposals to take the partnership to an entirely new level. The fast development of exchanges in the economic, political and cultural spheres has made it necessary to train, in institutions such as MGIMO, specialists of China and Russia, who will be able to maintain and deepen bilateral relations.

Other speakers at the forum underlined the need to coordinate integration processes in Eurasia and elsewhere, analysed Russia and China’s joint infrastructure projects, emphasized the part played by youth in developing a strategic bilateral partnership and the need for specialists who speak the Chinese language to participate in negotiation processes between Russia and Asian countries as well as the importance of cooperation in order to strengthen global strategic stability and address global problems.
