Category: Endowment Stories MGIMO at SPIEF-2019 8 June 2019 June 6th—8th, the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum took place at the Expoforum Convention and Exhibition center. June 5th, before the beginning of the official program, the III award ceremony for International Cooperation and Promoting International Economic Relations was held. The award was created by the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Moscow Center for International Cooperation and Kommersant Publishing House. MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov received a prize for his substantial contribution to the advances in the training of experts in international economic relations and in setting high standards in international business education. The same day, Anatoly Torkunov had a meeting with the Ambassador of Monaco to Russia, Mireille Pettiti, and representatives of the business and financial sector of St. Petersburg, during which they discussed bilateral relations in various areas of collaboration. The President of the All-Russian Insurers Association Igor Yurgens and MGIMO’s Vice-Rector Artem Malgin also attended the negotiations. The forum was also a platform for talks with the Managing Director of the Alexandrinsky Theater, Rinat Dosmukhamedov. MGIMO held, together with Corteva ™ Agriscience, a booth spreading awareness regarding different projects in the sphere of public and academic diplomacy such as the Russian-French Trianon Dialogue, the Russian-Austrian Sochi Dialogue and the Russian-Czech Discussion Forum. Various academic programs and research centers were also presented including the ASEAN Center, the Masters’ programs on «Global Agrarian Markets», «Strategic Management of International Companies in the field of Mineral Resources», «Artificial Intelligence»," Sport Diplomacy«, and other programs of the Business School. This year, MGIMO organized different discussion sessions on public diplomacy aimed at expanding bilateral relations with several countries — «Trialogue of dialogues: Petersburg, Sochi, Trianon», «Economy of Culture», «Education of the Future» and «Russia and France». MGIMO’s Vice-Rector Natalia Kuzmina contributed to the discussions of the Russian-Austrian dialogue. June 6th, in the course of his visit to Russia, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres met with the Chairman of the UN Association of Russia MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov. A panel discussion on corporate social responsibility as a driver of sustainable development was held by the UN Association of Russia together with the Embassy of Switzerland in Russia On the first day of the forum, the Research Director of MIEP Valery Salygin spoke at the «Energy Panel», and moderated a session on «Electric Power Industry» in the framework of the 2nd Russian-Chinese Energy Business Forum. At SPIEF-2019, MGIMO also signed agreements with the governments of the Russian Leningrad, Ryazan and Penza regions. MGIMO’s Vice-Rector Sergey Shitkov attended the ceremony. At the University’s stand and in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia, MGIMO signed an agreement with Corteva ™ Agriscience on the creation of a master’s program «World Agrarian Markets». Also attending were the Director of MGIMO Business School Angelika Mirzoyeva, and the Director of MGIMO’s Endowment Fund, Marina Petrova. June 8th, officially «youth day» at the SPIEF, MGIMO’s Department for Educational Work organized the two sessions «Up and Up — Preparing leaders who won’t just change the world but make it better» and «Flying to Russia: Tourism Industry Development to Boost Welfare». MGIMO’s Economic Club presented a youth model for attracting investments «Russia and the World: Creating Competitiveness 4.0». On youth day, MGIMO’s Vice-Rector Andrey Baykov participated in a session on «The Role of Young Scientists Associations in the Implementation of International Scientific and Technological Projects». The Director of MGIMO’s ASEAN Center Viktor Sumsky moderated the EAEU-ASEAN business dialogue.
