UN Secretary-General Meets With MGIMO Rector

June 6th, during his visit to Russia, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had a meeting with the Chairman of the United Nations Association of Russia, MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov.

In the course of their conversation, the Rector described the activities of the UN Association of Russia, emphasizing its open and multifaceted nature. The sides hashed out the organization of the Churkin Moscow International Model UN and the Rector invited the Secretary-General to participate in the 2020 Model, which concurs with the 75th anniversary of the formation of the United Nations.

The parties also discussed the running of UNITAR, UNCTAD, UNIDO and other UN educational programs and initiatives.

The Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office Vladimir Voronkov, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN and the UN Security Council Vasily Nebenzya, the Director of the UN Information Center in Moscow Vladimir Kuznetsov, the Deputy-Chairman of the UN Association of Russia Alexei Borisov, and MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for General Affairs Artem Malgin also attended the meeting.
