Category: Endowment Stories Week of Uzbekistan at MGIMO 15 March 2019 March 15th, the Week of Uzbekistan came to a close at MGIMO with an impressive concert. MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov and the Uzbek Ambassador to Russia Botirjon Asadov greeted the guests. In his welcome words, the Rector recalled the different events, which took place in the framework of the Week of Uzbekhistan, and shared memories about his student years and the first contacts he had with Uzbekhistan. Anatoly Torkunov also spoke about the upcoming International Forum of MGIMO graduates, scheduled to take place in Tashkent from May 17th to 19th and MGIMO’s first foreign campus, which will open its doors in the autumn of 2019. The Uzbek Ambassador expressed his appreciation for the work done by MGIMO’s Uzbek Club to promote the culture of their country. Before his solemn speech, Botirjon Asadov met with Uzbek students of the University. The concert enthralled the audience from the very start, inviting the viewers into a fascinating oriental tale, with national dancers and live music. The Chairman of the Uzbek club greeted the guests and thanked them for attending the event. The «Week of Uzbekistan at MGIMO» started on March 11th and since then many different events have taken place including a master class with a famous Uzbek photographer, the viewing of an Uzbek film, a discussion with an Olympic wrestling champion and a lecture on Central Asia.
