MGIMO Comes Second in Forbes Ranking of Best Russian Universities

27 June 2019

Forbes has published the latest edition of its ranking of the best universities in Russia. This year, MGIMO came first amongst universities specialized in social sciences and humanities and second on the final table. When taking into account only the «Forbes Factor», MGIMO is the uncontested leader.

The methodology used for compiling the ranking is based on monitoring the effectiveness of over a thousand higher education institutions. It considers not only the quality of education, but also statistical data such as graduate employment rates, the demand for graduates in the regions and the number of graduates having become entrepreneurs. Forbes also examined the biographies of more than 1 600 representatives of the Russian elite, members of the Forbes list, their children, directors of private and state-owned corporations and political figures.

Forbes rated universities by using ten criteria grouped into three categories: the quality of education (a maximum of 50 points), the quality of graduates (a maximum of 30 points) and the Forbes factor, which reflects a university’s prestige and the proportion of entrepreneurs in the total number of graduates (a maximum of 20 points).
