MGIMO Team Wins Russian Stage of Jessup Moot

February 28^th, the Russian finals of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition took place. The MGIMO team won the title of national champion.

27 teams participated in the Russian stage of the competition. MGIMO’s team, comprising Alisa Gerasimenko, Tamara Posadkova, Gerel Porsunkinova, Daria Savastyan and Alexandra Alimova won for the second year in a row.

Alisa Gerasimenko was according to the jury the best speaker to represent the defendant's position and the written memorandums of our University’s team took the fourth prize.

The team was coached by graduates of the International Law School Nikolai Gryzunov, Mikhail Abramov, Anna Sidneva and Alexandra Alyokhina. The team's curator is D.Ivanov, Associate Professor of the International Law School.

The themes of this year's competition were the obligations and responses of States with respect to the outbreak of a global pandemic, the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice, a desperate claim for political asylum by an alleged rogue scientist, and State responsibility for a suspicious aircraft explosion.

Jessup is the world's largest moot court competition in which teams from more than 150 countries of the world take part annually. International rounds of the competition will be held remotely in March-April, with more than 600 teams from 90 countries participating.
