MGIMO Improves Position in Global QS Ranking

June 10^th, the influential international rating agency Quacquarelli Symonds (Great Britain) published the latest edition of its rating of the best universities in the world: QS World University Ranking (WUR). MGIMO rose in the table of finalists from the 366^th to the 348^th place.

The QS World University Ranking was first published in 2004 and has since then become widely known in the academic, professional, and student communities as one of the three main international rankings of universities worldwide (together with the Shanghai and the Times Higher Education ratings).

This year, universities from over 93 countries participated in the ranking. The countries with the most universities presented, for several years already, are the United States (151 universities), followed by the United Kingdom (84), China (51), Germany (45) and Japan (41). Russia is represented in the ranking by 28 universities, of which three participated for the first time. In all, QS experts analyzed data on 1604 universities, of which 1002 made it into the final list.

Universities are assessed in this ranking according to six criteria: Academic Reputation (40%), Employer Reputation (10%), Citations per Faculty (20%), Student to Faculty ratio (20%), International Faculty ratio and International Student ratio (5% each).

Our University is one of the top 400 universities in the world according to QS since 2011. Over the years, MGIMO University rose by 51 positions — from 399^th to 348^th place. This year, MGIMO progressed considerably in the categories “Academic Reputation” and “Citation per Faculty”.

MGIMO partners, with which it carries out joint MA programs, also have outstanding results in the ranking. The University of St. Andrews (UK, 96^th place) made it into the top 100. The University of Geneva (Switzerland, 106^th place), the Free University of Berlin (Germany, 130^th place), Bologna University (Italy, 160^th place), Kazakh National University Al Farabi (Kazakhstan, 165^th place) and la Sapienza University (Italy, 171^st place) were represented in the top 200 universities globally. The University of Reading (UK, 205^th place), Campinas University (Brazil, 233^rd place), Sciences Po Paris (France, 242^nd place) and Tufts University (USA, 260^th place) are in the 200-300 bracket. Some of MGIMO’s partner universities did not take part in this ranking but have excellent results in subject rankings and in the new QS Business Masters Rankings: HEC Paris took the first place for its Strategic Management program and third place for its program in International Finance, Bocconi University’s MA in Finance came 11^th and its program in International Management came 12^th.

When considering the leading 350 universities of the final list, MGIMO is the only humanities university among the eleven Russian classical, research and technical universities represented.
