The 2nd year student of the MA program «International Financial Law», Alina Ivanova, took the second place in the international tax competition Young Tax Professional of the Year 2019. The final was held in Amsterdam where representatives of 17 countries gathered to work on a case dealing with different aspects of international taxation. Participants were required not only to analyse the tax risks, but also the business implications of the situation of a client having requested professional advice. During a first stage, the case was discussed in groups, which were supervised by members of the jury trying to assess each person’s ability to work in a group, and then each finalist gave an individual presentation to a new jury. Six participants were selected after this to partake in the second round, which included an individual presentation on «digitalization in the field of taxation», which required participants to express their personal opinion on current trends and challenges related to the topic. Among the members of the jury, there were EY executives, researchers and tax directors of major international companies. Aside participating in the competition, the finalists could attend technical seminars in preparation of the oral presentation, and discover the city of Amsterdam, its history and culture. Over the last five years, MGIMO students of the «International Financial Law» MA have three times made it into the finals of this prestigious international competition held in Amsterdam. In 2017 an MGIMO student won the first place, and in 2014, a student came seventh.
